I have come to believe it is. When we were running Liberty Ministries in 1979 we filed for that status. It was ignored, we later came to find out it was because they were planning to file charges on us. If we had that designation it would have been most inconvienient. As the years have passed, I am so very appreciative that we never got that designation. We believed at the time (and correctly so) that churches didn't need to file for any "permission" from the government. But our legal advisors felt it was a good thing to do. Where were they when the IRS came knocking on our door?
We dodged a bullet (of course we went to prison, but kept our souls!)
